The Museum of Contemporary Art – Museums of Serbia, Ten Days from 10 to 10

The event Museums of Serbia, Ten Days from 10 to 10 will be held from May 12-21, 2016. During this period, the visitors of the exhibition spaces of the Museum of Contemporary Art will be able to see the exhibition of Jelena Jureša Mira, Study for a Portrait in the Salon of the Museum of Contemporary Arts and exhibition of works by Dušan Janković Artist for a New Age in the Čolaković Legacy, which are a part of regular program of MoCA, as well as additional accompanying program.

May 13, 2016 at 6 pm, The City in the Museum – Talk on the project Museum in Movement and the exhibition The City – Chronicles of Urban Space

MoCA’s project Museum in Movement represents the series of monographic and thematic exhibitions based on the works from the collections from the Museum of Contemporary Art in the museums and similar institutions in Serbia and the region. The project was conceived and is being realized with an aim of keeping MoCA’s continuity in exhibiting of works from the collections while the building at Ušće is being under reconstruction and acquaint wider cultural audience of Serbia with the significant artworks and creators of Yugoslav art in the 20th century.

One of the exhibitions within the project is The City – Chronicles of Urban Space, which is focusing on certain phenomena and cultural models appropriate to the nature of city surroundings, as well as different aspects of presentation of a city. Since 2008 until 2011, this exhibition was displayed in Novi Sad, Užice, Gornji Milanovac, Subotica, Belgrade and Lazarevac.

The authors of the exhibition Mišela Blanuša and Žaklina Ratković, curators in MoCA, will talk about the exhibition and the project. They will discuss the modes of thinking about the city in the works of the artists, who created in the 20th century, as well as the challenges for curators in the course of envisioning of thematic exhibitions of the works in the collection.

 

May 18, 2016 from 12 to 8 – Open Door Day in the Salon of MoCA

As a part of the exhibition of Mira, Study for a Portrait, curator Una Popović will respond to the questions of visitors about the work of Jelena Jureša and the exhibition in the Salon.


May 19, 2016 at 6 pm, Museum in the City – Talk on MoCA’s project that focused on the city and local community

The talk about two projects, dealing with the architectural heritage of the city and the work of the museum in the public space – museum relocated into the city, will be organized in the Salon of MoCA. Curators at MoCA, Zoran Erić and Una Popović will speak about the museum stepping out from its collections and opening the discussion in the other public spaces, as well as about how we perceive the topics of transformations of neighbourhoods today, what kind of cityscape are we modelling and what kind of architectural legacy are we leaving behind us, are we ready to take the museum into city space and initiate audience’s participation.

Differentiated Neighbourhoods of Novi Belgrade is a project of the Centre for Visual Culture of MoCA, dealing with the investigation of different meanings of the term neighbourhood in the contexts of urban, architectural and sociological terminology, as well the analysis of the historical development and current dynamics of urban transformations of the neighbourhoods in Novi Belgrade. The project lasted from 2006 until 2008.

The exhibition Belgrade: Nonplaces from 2009 is a story about the city and its urban, social and personal dilemmas. The exhibition relocates museum practice in the public space, including the audience in the very process of creation that is realization of particular works.

May 20, 2016 at 7 pm, Opening of the exhibition Dušan Janković: Artist for a New Age

The selection of approximately 50 works from all periods in the work of Dušan Janković (1894-1950), an authentic protagonist of his times, will be represented on the exhibition.

Janković was a very versatile author, educated and dynamic, who expressed himself in different aspects of arts. He worked with graphics and drawing, also painting in the first years of his art career, as well as different disciplines of applied arts. He created interiors and furniture, worked as graphic designer for various publications, his book covers and illustrations are remembered, he created posters, drafted patterns for porcelain and ceramics, created stage costumes, other garments and textiles.

Aside from Museum of Contemporary Arts, which holds 33 works by Janković, his pieces are kept in the collections of the Museum of Applied Arts, National Museum in Belgrade, Belgrade City Museum and private collections.

The curator of the exhibition is Žaklina Ratković, Senior Curator at MoCA.

The exhibition will be opened until June 27, 2016.

 

May 21, 2016 from 9 am till 5 pm, Seminar Utilization of Artwork in Creating of the Active Teaching Process in the Primary and High school Education

This seminar is organized as part of Teachers’ Club of MoCA and is created for teachers in primary schools and high schools, applying contemporary methods of teaching using integrative themes and resources available.

The seminar was accredited under the number 727 in the Catalogue of Programs of Continual Professional Advancement for Teachers, Educators, Pedagogues and School Principles in 2015/2016, by the Institute for Advancement of Education, Belgrade 2015.
